Former UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic is confident he will beat Jon Jones at UFC 295. Read about their upcoming clash and Miocic’s plans for victory.
Stipe Miocic, the former UFC heavyweight champion, is gearing up for his highly anticipated bout against Jon Jones at UFC 295 on November 11 at Madison Square Garden. Despite a two-year hiatus from the octagon, Miocic is oozing with confidence as he aims to reclaim his title.
Miocic, 40, holds the record for the most title defenses in the UFC’s heavyweight division. However, facing Jones, who is widely regarded as one of the greatest mixed martial artists of all time, presents a significant challenge for the seasoned fighter.
Jones, 35, has had a controversial past within the organization but is undeniably talented inside the octagon. Nevertheless, Miocic is determined to dictate the terms of the fight and not allow Jones to control the pace.
"I’m not going to let him dictate what he wants to do," Miocic expressed during a video podcast. "I’m going to dictate what I want to do. The minute I let him stop doing what I want, I’ve lost the fight. But if I do what I want, my chances are a lot better of winning than losing."
Jones made the transition from light heavyweight to heavyweight after his victory over Dominick Reyes in 2020. However, he took an extended break to acclimate himself to the new division. A potential matchup with Francis Ngannou was in the works, but Ngannou’s departure from the UFC opened the door for Jones to face Cyril Gane for the vacant belt.
On the other hand, Miocic’s last appearance was at UFC 260 in March 2021, where he suffered a devastating knockout loss to Ngannou. Since then, Miocic has committed to being a full-time fighter, dispelling any doubts about his dedication to the sport.
"I’m doing everything I’m supposed to," Miocic emphasized. "I haven’t changed anything I’ve done. I can still work out at the station. It’s not like every day is a sparring day or a pad day – it’s conditioning, lifting. There are recovery days. I don’t understand people."
Confident in his abilities, Miocic firmly believes he will emerge victorious in every aspect of the game against Jones. His ultimate goal is to secure a finish and walk out with the belt wrapped around his waist.
