Gabe Rednose Takes on Undefeated Trae Cusac for State Cruiserweight Titles
Gabe Rednose, a rising star in the world of mixed martial arts , is gearing up for his next big fight. On Saturday, Aug. 19, Rednose will step into the cage to take on undefeated fighter Trae Cusac for both the California Amateur Mixed Martial Arts Organization (CAMO) and Hendo’s Fight Night (HFN) state cruiserweight titles. The highly anticipated showdown will be part of an HFN card in Temecula, Calif.
Rednose, a 2016 graduate of Kingfisher High School, sees this fight as a major opportunity to make a name for himself in the sport. "It’s the most prestigious title I can fight for at this level," said Rednose, who is known by his nickname "The Freight Train." He has been training diligently in Oklahoma and will fly to California on Aug. 11 to complete his camp before the fight.
Rednose’s journey to this point has not been without its challenges. After representing the United States in the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation Pan American Championships in Mexico, he suffered a torn meniscus and MCL. Following surgery and months of rehabilitation, Rednose made his return to the fight ring in June 2022.
However, his scheduled opponent pulled out at the last minute, leaving Rednose without a fight. Fortunately, MMA legend Dan Henderson stepped in to help find a replacement. Despite facing an opponent who was 70 pounds heavier, Rednose still stepped into the cage and emerged victorious with a TKO win in just 43 seconds.
Now, Rednose is focused on his upcoming battle with Trae Cusac. Cusac, who boasts an impressive 6-0 record, is ranked No. 1 in Kentucky, Ohio, and the U.S. southeast region. The fight will take place in the cruiserweight division, with a weight limit of 230 pounds.
Rednose, who normally competes in the light heavyweight division, is confident in his abilities despite moving up a weight class. He holds the No. 1 ranking in the U.S. and Latin America in the light heavyweight division and has a record of 8-2, with all of his wins coming via first-round finishes.
For this crucial fight, Rednose will have the support of his coaches Joe Stevenson and Luis Iniquez, both of whom are UFC hall of fame fighters. With their guidance, Rednose is determined to secure victory and take his career to the next level.
A win against Cusac could open doors for Rednose in the professional MMA scene. He hopes to sign a contract with a feeder promotion that can pave the way for him to compete in top organizations like the UFC, Bellator, ONE Championship, and the Professional Fighters League.
Rednose understands the significance of this fight and the potential it holds for his future. "I’m just looking to do whatever I have to do to make it to the next level to get paid," he said. "That’s so I can give my family the life they deserve."
