Mohammed Yahya, a Dubai-based athlete, is set to make history as the first Emirati to compete in the UFC. The 29-year-old lightweight champion from UAE Warriors has been signed to the world’s leading mixed martial arts promotion and will make his debut at UFC 294 on October 21. Yahya’s opponent is scheduled to be American Trevor Peek, although the bout has yet to be confirmed by the UFC. UFC 294 will be headlined by a rematch between lightweight champion Islam Makhachev and former belt-holder Charles Oliveira. The event marks the UFC’s return to Abu Dhabi after a year and is part of Abu Dhabi Showdown Week, a week-long series of events and activities. Alongside the headline fights, the card also features a highly anticipated middleweight bout between Khamzat Chimaev and Paulo Costa, as well as a flyweight matchup between Muhammad Mokaev and Tim Elliott. Yahya, who has a professional record of 12-3, expressed his excitement about signing with the UFC, stating that it has been a dream since he was 14. He aims to deliver the best performance of his career and hopes to inspire not only the UAE but the entire Arab region. Born in Oxford, England, Yahya moved to Dubai at a young age and began his mixed martial arts journey at 14. He has competed in jiu-jitsu, kickboxing, and amateur MMA, achieving a perfect 22-0 record in the latter. Yahya has previously fought in regional promotions such as Desert Force and Bellator, and he has been a dominant force in UAE Warriors, winning the lightweight Arabian championship and successfully defending the title three times. With a five-fight win streak, Yahya trains at TK MMA Fit gym in Media City and is managed by Tam Khan. The Emirati fighter is determined to showcase his skills and prove that dreams do come true with hard work.
