San Jose has a rich history in combat sports, hosting the first-ever sanctioned mixed martial arts event in California back in 2006. This event was organized by Scott Coker’s promotion, Strikeforce, at the SAP Center. Now, Coker returns to his roots with ‘Fight Night at the Tech’, where he will serve as the Executive Producer.
The inaugural event is scheduled for May 18, 2024, and tickets will go on sale on March 18, 2024. Coker expressed his excitement about the event, stating, ‘It always feels great giving back to the Bay Area, a place I call home. We’re looking for the next mixed martial arts superstar and to grow the amazing talent pool here in California even further. Fight Night at the Tech will give these young fighters a chance to shine.’
Coker has a deep connection to the Bay Area, having previously run Strikeforce until it was acquired by the UFC in 2012. Many of Strikeforce’s events were held in San Jose, making California its core base of operations for the first five years.
