Bellator Lightweight Champion Usman Nurmagomedov is set to defend his title against the surging Alexander Shabliy on May 17 in Paris.
The Bellator Champions Series is currently underway, marking the beginning of Bellator’s new era. Following the acquisition of Bellator by PFL last year, the Bellator Champions Series was established.
In addition to the highly anticipated lightweight title fight, the event in Paris will also feature the return of Bellator Bantamweight Champion Patchy Mix, who will be facing off against Magomed Magomedov. Mix claimed the lineal Bellator bantamweight championship in a thrilling bout against Sergio Pettis at Bellator 301 in November.
Nurmagomedov’s last fight ended in a no contest against Brent Primus at Bellator 300 in October. Although Nurmagomedov initially secured a unanimous decision victory over Primus, the result was overturned due to a positive drug test.
The reigning lightweight champion earned his title at Bellator 288 by defeating Patricky ‘Pitbull’ Freire via unanimous decision. He successfully defended his belt against MMA legend Benson Henderson at Bellator 292.
