Australian-Thai striker Danial Williams is set to compete for the ONE strawweight world title in kickboxing. Get insights into his journey and upcoming clash with Jonathan Di Bella.
Australian-Thai striker Danial Williams is set to compete for the ONE strawweight world title in kickboxing. Williams, who has experience in mixed martial arts (MMA), kickboxing, and Muay Thai, shared his insights on the differences in striking techniques between the disciplines.
In an interview with Sportskeeda, Williams emphasized the importance of engaging in MMA striking to fully appreciate its challenges. He admitted that as a spectator, he used to think he could outstrike MMA fighters, but after stepping into the cage himself, he realized how difficult it truly is. Williams explained, "We got to worry about so many other things."
Since his promotional debut in April 2021, the 30-year-old Perth native has competed in four MMA matches, winning three of them. However, his next challenge will be in the realm of kickboxing as he aims to dethrone reigning world champion Jonathan Di Bella of Canada.
The highly anticipated showdown between Williams and Di Bella will take place at ONE Fight Night 15 on October 6 in Bangkok. Williams, also known as ‘Mini T,’ is no stranger to pursuing kickboxing glory. In a previous attempt to seize the flyweight gold, he faced off against world champion Superlek Kiatmoo9 in a short-notice fight back in March. Despite his best efforts, Williams fell short and suffered a knockout loss in the third round.
Determined to avoid a similar outcome, Williams is focused on his upcoming clash with Di Bella. The Canadian champion will be defending his world title for the first time since claiming it in October last year. Both fighters will be vying for victory in the prestigious Lumpinee Boxing Stadium, with the event being broadcast live and free to Prime Video subscribers in North America.
