Midnight Sun Mining, a company focused on the exploration and discovery of world-class copper deposits in the Zambian-Congo Copperbelt, has announced that drilling at the Mitu Trend in Zambia has confirmed high-grade intercepts. This development comes as a significant boost to the company’s Solwezi project.
Located adjacent to the largest copper mine in Africa, First Quantum Minerals’ Kansanshi copper/gold mine, Midnight Sun’s Solwezi mineral exploration licenses have shown promising results. The remaining drill results from holes MTDD047 and MTDD048, along with the 2022 drilling campaign, have all confirmed the presence of high-grade mineralization.
The Mitu Trend drilling campaign has revealed that the copper mineralization intercepted at Mitu is associated with cobalt, nickel, and anomalous gold. Notable intercepts include 11.50 meters (m) at 1.41% copper, 0.11% cobalt, and 0.03% nickel in hole MTDD044. This hole also yielded 4.15m at 1.29% copper, 0.13% cobalt, and 0.09% nickel, as well as 5.80m at 1.86% copper, 0.07% cobalt, and 0.02% nickel.
Other highlights from the drilling campaign include hole MTDD045, which recorded 7.30m at 0.58% copper, 0.02% cobalt, and 0.02% nickel. Additionally, hole MTDD047 showed 26.10m at 0.32% copper, 0.07% cobalt, and 0.05% nickel, while hole MTDD048 exhibited 22.25m at 0.39% copper, 0.01% cobalt, and 0.01% nickel.
