UFC, the world’s premier mixed martial arts organization, has announced a new multi-year agreement with Foxtel Group that will make Foxtel and Kayo Sports the exclusive distributors of all UFC Pay Per View events in Australia. This exciting partnership is set to begin in January 2024 and will see all UFC Pay Per View events broadcast exclusively on Main Event on Foxtel and Kayo Sports.
This new agreement extends UFC’s long-standing relationship with Foxtel Group, which first began broadcasting UFC programming in 2008. The partnership has been a success, and UFC President Dana White expressed his excitement about extending the broadcast partnership with Foxtel Group. White stated, ‘Foxtel and Kayo Sports are the best sports broadcasters in the country, and they have backed UFC in Australia since the beginning. Together, we will continue to grow UFC in Australia, and they will be the destination for the biggest and baddest fights we put on year-round.’
Foxtel Group CEO Patrick Delany also expressed his enthusiasm for the extended partnership, highlighting the enormous growth potential of UFC. Delany said, ‘UFC boasts one of the youngest fan bases of any professional sport in the country, and it’s exciting to continue our partnership with a brand that has such enormous growth potential – both at home and abroad. It’s the perfect match for our more than 3 million sports subscribers streaming on Kayo Sports and Foxtel.’
The return of UFC to Australia earlier this year in February was a huge success. UFC 284: MAKHACHEV VS. VOLKANOVSKI, held at RAC Arena in Perth, recorded a gate of AUS $5.8M (USD $3.9M), making it the highest-grossing event ever for any arena in Australia. The event featured ten fighters from Australia and New Zealand, including current UFC Featherweight Champion Alexander ‘The Great’ Volkanovski, highlighting the level of MMA talent in the region.
Following this successful return, UFC will be hosting UFC 293 on September 10 at Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney. This event will mark UFC’s first return to Sydney since 2017 and its first Pay Per View in the city since 2011. The return to Sydney is a result of UFC’s partnership with the New South Wales (NSW) Government through its Tourism and Events agency Destination NSW.
UFC’s popularity has soared since its introduction to Australia in 2008. With over 700 million fans worldwide and 243 million followers across social media, UFC has become a global phenomenon. In Australia and New Zealand, there are more than 4.3 million fans and 6 million social media followers, with a significant portion of the fan base aged between 18-39.
Since 2010, UFC has presented 16 live events in Australia, with sold-out shows at various arenas across the country. These events have attracted over 280,000 fans, with millions more watching on Pay Per View and broadcast television globally.
UFC’s new agreement with Foxtel Group and Kayo Sports ensures that Australian fans will have access to all the thrilling UFC Pay Per View events, making Foxtel and Kayo Sports the ultimate destination for MMA enthusiasts in the country.
