Meta has partnered with UFC to bring the thrilling world of mixed martial arts (MMA) to Horizon Worlds in virtual reality (VR). The upcoming experience, set to launch in November, will allow UFC Fight Pass subscribers to watch MMA action in stunning 4K resolution and 180-degree VR capture. Users can enjoy the fights alone or with friends, and even switch camera angles for the best view. Additionally, Horizon Worlds users can engage in discussions about UFC, explore a virtual version of the Octagon, and compete in single player and multiplayer games to earn rewards and achieve UFC ‘Hall of Famer’ status.
Meta’s collaboration with UFC is part of its strategy to attract users to Horizon Worlds. The company has recently introduced Quests, which include exciting mini-games like Giant Paddle Mini Golf, Arena Clash, and Bad Roommates, to keep users engaged. Furthermore, Meta has unveiled Rumble World, the first of many next-gen Horizon Worlds games featuring enhanced graphics and immersive gameplay.
According to Meta, the decision to partner with UFC was driven by the engagement and passion of the MMA audience. The company successfully tested this technology during a few MMA events last year and is now expanding its capabilities. Craig Borsari, MMA’s chief content officer, expressed excitement about the potential of this technology to enhance fan engagement and grow the sport.
Given Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s interest in the sport, the collaboration with UFC aligns well. While a cage match between Zuckerberg and Elon Musk may not be in the cards, live sports have the potential to attract new users to the Horizon Worlds platform. It remains to be seen if Meta will add other sports alongside UFC in the future.
