Former undisputed lightweight champion and Hall of Fame inductee, Khabib Nurmagomedov, has revealed that while he encourages his son to train in mixed martial arts, he discourages him from pursuing a career in the UFC. Nurmagomedov, who retired with an unbeaten record of 29-0, believes that athletes in the UFC are far from ‘normal people’.
Nurmagomedov, who was recently inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame, has been coaching and training at the San Jose facility since his retirement. He led his teammate, Islam Makhachev, to a title coronation against former champion Charles Oliveira.
In a recent interview, Nurmagomedov shared that his youngest son asked him if he could fight like Makhachev. While Nurmagomedov acknowledged his son’s interest in MMA, he expressed his reluctance to see his children become professional athletes.
When asked about the chances of his own return to MMA, Nurmagomedov stated that his manager was approached about the possibility of him fighting in UFC 300, but it was immediately shut down.
