Jake Paul’s Interest in MMA
YouTuber-turned-pro boxer Jake Paul, who is set to face Mike Tyson in a boxing matchup at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, on July 20, has not given up on his dream of competing in mixed martial arts.
In a recent episode of his podcast, Paul expressed his desire to fight two former UFC fighters under the PFL banner. He named Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz as his preferred opponents and offered a $10 million deal for either one of them.
However, both Masvidal and Diaz have shown reluctance to accept the offer. Masvidal dismissed Paul’s boxing skills and questioned his ability to transition to MMA. Diaz, on the other hand, is currently scheduled to face Masvidal in a boxing match.
Despite the challenges, Paul remains determined and believes that these fighters are hiding behind excuses. He expressed his frustration with the lack of progress in negotiations and called for a real fight or spar to happen.
While Diaz is no longer under contract with the UFC, Masvidal is still under contract with the promotion. The UFC had to grant Masvidal permission to participate in the boxing match against Diaz.
Paul criticized the UFC for allowing Masvidal to box but not including him on the list of approved opponents. He revealed that the UFC provided Masvidal with a list of 35 names he could box, and Paul’s name was not included.
Although Paul is signed with PFL for an MMA bout, his debut in the sport is currently on hold as he focuses on his boxing career. He has a record of 9-1 in boxing.
Despite offering Diaz $10 million for an MMA fight, Paul stated that Diaz declined the offer.
