Mikey Musumeci Prepares to Transition from Jiu-Jitsu to MMA
Mikey Musumeci, the reigning ONE flyweight submission grappling world champion, is set to defend his title against fellow ONE world champion Jarred Brooks at ONE Fight Night 13. However, Musumeci has his sights set on a bigger challenge – transitioning to mixed martial arts (MMA).
In an interview with the South China Morning Post, Musumeci expressed his curiosity about how his Brazilian jiu-jitsu skills would fare in the world of MMA. He acknowledged the need for adjustments and the challenge of adapting his game to incorporate striking techniques. Musumeci stated, "You know, I plan on doing this as well eventually going into MMA and making those adjustments like trying to make my game work in MMA getting punched in the face." While he recognizes the significant adjustments required, Musumeci is confident in his ability to succeed.
Before venturing into MMA, Musumeci will face Jarred Brooks at the legendary Lumpinee Boxing Stadium. Brooks, the reigning ONE strawweight world champion, will be looking to add another title to his collection. Musumeci, known as ‘Darth Rigatoni,’ aims to secure another victory and further solidify his impressive resume.
The highly anticipated matchup between Musumeci and Brooks will take place on August 4. Fans in North America can catch all the action live and for free on Amazon Prime Video.
