PFL star Cedric Doumbe wants to fight Jake Paul if his opponent for his March 7 fight doesn’t make weight. Doumbe is currently slated to take on Baissangour Chamsoudinov on March 7, but there have been concerns about his opponent making weight. If that does happen, he wants to take on Jake instead. It is an ambitious ask from the Cameroonian fighter, given that Jake is scheduled to fight on March 2 against a, as of yet, unannounced opponent. |
PFL star Cedric Doumbe has expressed his desire to fight Jake Paul if his opponent for his upcoming March 7 fight doesn’t make weight. This comes just days after Jake’s return to the ring on March 2.
When Jake Paul first entered the world of combat sports, he focused solely on boxing. However, after participating in crossover fights with athletes from different disciplines, he has become more open to a mixed martial arts fight.
Initially, Jake had his sights set on fighting in the UFC. However, UFC President Dana White shut down that idea, leading to a war of words between the two regarding pay-per-view sales and fighter compensation. As a result, Jake signed a deal with the Professional Fighter’s League (PFL) to make his MMA debut in their Super Fights division.
Numerous fighters have called out Jake to be his first opponent inside the cage, and the latest to do so is Cedric Doumbe, who competes in the PFL’s Welterweight division. Doumbe also has a win in the boxing ring under his belt. Although Doumbe is currently scheduled to face Baissangour Chamsoudinov on March 7, there are concerns about his opponent making weight. If that happens, Doumbe wants to take on Jake instead.
During an appearance on The MMA Hour, Doumbe expressed his interest in fighting Jake Paul, stating, "Maybe I’m gonna fight, I don’t know. I’m gonna choose maybe Jake Paul! Maybe Jake Paul. But I mean Jake Paul is the guy. If I fight against Jake Paul, I think the Stade de France would be full in an hour. He’s bigger than me, for sure. Same height but bigger than me. But I like when I’m fit. I don’t like to do the weight cut."
It is a bold request from the Cameroonian fighter, considering that Jake is already scheduled to fight on March 2 against an as-yet-unannounced opponent. PFL boss Peter Murray has confirmed that Jake will step into the cage in 2024, but a specific date has not been set.
Only time will tell when this potential matchup between Cedric Doumbe and Jake Paul will take place.
