Fulfilling a Dream

Rian Torrance, a 41-year-old police officer in Plymouth, recently checked a big ticket item off his personal bucket list. He competed in the Cage Titans 62 Mixed Martial Arts event at Plymouth’s Memorial Hall and emerged victorious with a three-round unanimous decision over Tim Walsh from New Hampshire.

Challenging Himself

Torrance, who has a background in wrestling, boxing, and Brazilian jiu-jitsu, saw the MMA fight as a big challenge. He didn’t want to look back one day and regret not taking the opportunity to compete in his hometown.

Training and Support

Torrance trained extensively for the fight, utilizing the Daniel Gracie Academy facility in town. With the help of his trainer, Mike Gresh, he prepared both physically and mentally. Torrance expressed gratitude for the support of his wife, Cristina, and their two children, as well as his friends and fellow police officers.

Overcoming Challenges

Despite suffering a broken nose early in the match, Torrance persevered and took Walsh down to the mat in each of the three rounds. The judges scored the welterweight matchup in his favor.

Giving Back

In a heartwarming gesture, proceeds from the T-shirt sales in support of Torrance, designed by Tony Pena, were donated to the Wounded Warrior Project. This added up to a generous donation of $2,000.

Continuing the Journey

Torrance plans to continue his Jiu Jitsu training and work towards earning a black belt in that discipline.
