A Valparaiso man, Christopher Delgado, has been found guilty of felony battery on a law enforcement officer resulting in bodily injury, as well as misdemeanor charges of resisting law enforcement and false informing. The incident occurred in 2022 when Delgado, who was wanted on a local warrant for auto theft, resisted arrest and threw punches at the officer. He was subdued by an MMA fighter, William Cassoday, using a rear naked chokehold. Delgado’s sentencing is scheduled for March 1.

Christopher Delgado, 39, was convicted of felony battery on a law enforcement officer resulting in bodily injury, as well as misdemeanor charges of resisting law enforcement and false informing. The incident occurred on May 16, 2022, when Patrolman Jamison Smith attempted to apprehend Delgado, who was wanted on a local warrant for auto theft. Delgado resisted arrest and threw punches at the officer, prompting the intervention of Valparaiso resident William Cassoday, a skilled MMA fighter. Cassoday subdued Delgado using a rear naked chokehold, allowing Smith to handcuff him. Delgado will be sentenced on March 1.
