Mikey Musumeci, also known as ‘Darth Rigatoni’, is set to make his mark in the world of mixed martial arts (MMA) under the ONE Championship banner. On October 6, Musumeci will step into the legendary Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok as part of the highly anticipated ONE Fight Night 15 card.
After a stunning submission victory over reigning ONE strawweight world champion Jarred Brooks, Musumeci is ready to take on his next challenge. This time, he will face off against Japanese legend and former ONE lightweight titleholder, Shinya Aoki.
In an interview with TMZ Sports, Musumeci expressed his desire to explore different combat sports: "I would love to just study [Muay Thai] and just become the best I can at it. And then when I’m ready to like, if I’m decent, you know, f*ck it let’s do it. I would love to do MMA, it would be so cool."
Since joining ONE Championship last year, Musumeci has been unstoppable. He claimed the inaugural ONE flyweight submission grappling world title by defeating Cleber Sousa at ONE on Prime Video 2. Since then, he has defeated a series of world-class opponents, including a Combat Sambo world champion, an IBJJF world champion, and a ONE world champion.
Now, Musumeci faces his biggest challenge yet in Shinya Aoki, one of the most revered figures in Asian MMA history. Aoki’s impressive career and skill set make him a formidable opponent, but Musumeci is determined to prove himself once again.
