The Professional Fighters League (PFL) is set to kick off the 2023 Playoffs in Texas after a thrilling regular season. On Friday, August 4, the Boeing Center in San Antonio will host the first round of the playoffs, featuring the light heavyweight and men’s featherweight divisions.
In the highly anticipated main event, Bubba Jenkins, last year’s featherweight runner-up, will face off against Jesus Pinedo, who has made an impressive debut in his first PFL season. Pinedo secured his spot in the playoffs with a surprise knockout victory over 2022 champion Brendan Loughnane in June.
The co-main event will showcase Josh Silveira, the top seed in the light heavyweight division, as he looks to extend his four-fight winning streak against Ty Flores. Silveira dominated the PFL Regular Season, collecting an impressive 12 points.
Other exciting matchups on the card include Chris Wade stepping in to replace the injured Movlid Khaybulaev and taking on unbeaten Gabriel Alves Braga in a featherweight contest. Additionally, Marthin Hamlet will face PFL Challenger Series contract winner Impa Kasanganay in a battle to determine who will compete for the light heavyweight title.
The event’s main card will also feature an electrifying lightweight bout between undefeated Elvin Espinoza and Bellator veteran Keoni Diggs. The prelims will showcase intriguing matchups such as Thad Jean putting his undefeated record on the line against Ali Omar in a welterweight contest.
Despite some minor setbacks, including missed weight by Pinedo and Diggs, the fights will proceed as scheduled. Both fighters will forfeit 20% of their purse to their opponents, and Pinedo will also be docked one point from the PFL’s playoff scoring system.
