Bellator’s Franchise Fighter Pitbull Freire Takes on Chihiro Suzuki in Rizin Card
This weekend, Bellator’s franchise fighter, Patricio "Pitbull" Freire, will step into the ring on short notice for an exciting match. The Bellator-Rizin co-promotional card will take place at the renowned Saitama Super Arena in Japan. Freire, the current Bellator featherweight champion, is set to face off against Japanese kickboxer Chihiro Suzuki in a thrilling 154-pound catchweight bout.
Just over a month ago, Freire suffered a defeat in a Bellator bantamweight title fight against Sergio Pettis. However, he wasted no time in accepting the challenge to fight in the Rizin portion of the card. The match between Freire and Suzuki will be held under Rizin rules, adding an extra layer of excitement to the fight.
The action-packed event will kick off with the Bellator portion of the card, featuring bouts in a cage. This will take place on Sunday afternoon in Japan, which will be Saturday night in the U.S. Immediately following the Bellator fights, the Rizin card will take place in the ring.
Unfortunately, AJ McKee, the former Bellator featherweight champion, had to withdraw from his scheduled fight against Patricky "Pitbull" Freire due to medical reasons. However, fans can still anticipate an incredible showdown as Roberto "Satoshi" Souza, the Rizin lightweight champion, steps in to replace McKee in the fight and the tournament.
In addition to the main event, the Bellator card will feature the promotion’s inaugural flyweight title fight. Kyoji Horiguchi, a former Bellator and Rizin bantamweight champion, will take on Makoto "Shinryu" Takahashi in what promises to be an electrifying match.
