Benoit Saint-Denis Wants a Showdown with Justin Gaethje
Benoit Saint-Denis, the rising star in the UFC lightweight division, has set his sights on a battle with Justin Gaethje. After an impressive win over Matt Frevola at UFC 295, Saint-Denis is eager to prove himself against one of the top contenders at 155 pounds.
With a perfect 5-0 record in the UFC and a string of stoppage victories, Saint-Denis has quickly climbed the rankings. He believes that a fight with Gaethje would be the perfect opportunity to showcase his skills and engage in an all-out war.
In an interview on The MMA Hour, Saint-Denis expressed his desire for the fight, stating, "I do believe we both have a chin that we can crack a couple of times, and if people want a violent fight and fight that could be [remembered by] history, I think that’s the fight to make. I do believe we can have a fight that is going to be crazy. Crazy scrambles, crazy punching exchanges. If he wants a war, anywhere, I’m for it."
Saint-Denis has been on fire in 2023, with three impressive victories in the past five months. He has submitted Ismael Bonfim, knocked out Thiago Moises in a Fight of the Night performance, and most recently, delivered a brutal first-round head kick knockout of Frevola.
However, Gaethje represents a significant challenge for Saint-Denis. The former UFC interim champion is known for his knockout power and is considered one of the top contenders in the lightweight division. Despite Gaethje’s claim that his next fight will be for the title, Saint-Denis believes that his callout could gain traction, especially with other top contenders already booked.
Saint-Denis explained, "Why not? A lot of guys are booked already in the division. There is [Mateusz] Gamrot, Dustin [Poirier], and him that are not booked, so those three guys are the targets for me."
While his callout may seem ambitious, Saint-Denis is confident in his abilities and believes he is ready for the toughest fights at 155 pounds. He aims to be a legitimate title contender by the end of 2024.
"I’m going to try and I’m going to give my all to be a real title contender [next year], of course. It’s all I wish for," said Saint-Denis. "I do believe I earned a great fight for my next fight, and it’s going to be one more step to get that belt around my waist."
With his determination and impressive performances, Benoit Saint-Denis is a name to watch in the UFC lightweight division.
