Michael Chandler, the American UFC fighter, has revealed that he has been presented with an opportunity to fight UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev in October. However, Chandler is focusing on a potential rematch with Conor McGregor in September, provided McGregor has recovered from his recent injury. The anticipated bout between Chandler and McGregor at UFC 303 was called off due to McGregor’s broken toe. Despite being offered a fight against Makhachev, Chandler is eager for a rescheduled match with McGregor at Noche UFC on 14 September in Las Vegas. Chandler expressed his enthusiasm for the potential McGregor fight, labeling it as the ‘biggest sporting event in the history of sports.’ McGregor, the former featherweight and lightweight champion, has expressed his desire to return to the octagon following his injury. Nevertheless, UFC president Dana White has cast doubt on McGregor’s comeback. McGregor shared his emotional turmoil at missing UFC 303, where Alex Pereira defended his light-heavyweight title against Jiri Prochazka. Chandler, who last fought in November 2022 against Dustin Poirier, is eyeing a showdown with McGregor. Notably, a fight against Makhachev would mark Chandler’s second shot at a UFC title, having previously lost to Charles Oliveira in 2021. Meanwhile, Makhachev, the 32-year-old Russian fighter, recently defended his championship against Poirier. In the lightweight division, top contender Arman Tsarukyan is currently serving a nine-month suspension due to an altercation with a fan.
