Former undisputed lightweight champion and UFC Hall of Fame inductee, Khabib Nurmagomedov has expressed his desire to undergo the "experience" of cutting weight to a championship limit one last time. Despite retiring from mixed martial arts competition in 2020, Nurmagomedov still longs for the intense emotions and challenges that come with making weight for a championship fight.
Nurmagomedov, who retired with an undefeated record of 29-0, made the decision to hang up his gloves after submitting Justin Gaethje in the second round to unify the lightweight titles. However, earlier this year, he hinted at a potential return to the sport, acknowledging the fans’ desire to see him back in the Octagon.
While Nurmagomedov remains firm on not competing again, he believes that the unique experience of cutting weight for a championship fight is something that cannot be replicated elsewhere. He described his last weight cut for the Gaethje fight as the toughest of his career, knowing it would be his final one in that weight class.
"Honestly, I want to experience it again," Nurmagomedov shared on his official YouTube channel. "I think that an ordinary fan or enthusiast wouldn’t understand this. You can’t get these emotions anywhere else. You only feel them on that day, in that state. You can’t get such emotions anywhere else."
While Nurmagomedov’s desire for one final weight cut may intrigue fans, it remains to be seen if the retired champion will ever make that last UFC walk.
