Tom Aspinall’s Ambitious Dream
Tom Aspinall, the rising star in the UFC heavyweight division , has set his sights on unifying the title after his impressive victory over Sergei Pavlovich at UFC 295. Aspinall, who stepped in on short notice to replace Jon Jones, is now targeting fights against both Jones and Stipe Miocic.
In an exclusive interview with TNT Sports, Aspinall expressed his desire to face the two champions and solidify his position among the sport’s greats. Despite the challenges of a last-minute fight, Aspinall’s confidence is at an all-time high.
"Ideally, I want Jon Jones next," Aspinall told TNT Sports. "We need to unify the title right now. There’s two heavyweight champions of the world, and in my opinion, this is not right. We need to find out who the best guy is. But right now, Jon Jones is unavailable. The other available guy, who is ready to fight for the title, is Stipe, and I think it just makes the most sense."
Aspinall acknowledges that there are other contenders in the division, but he believes he has a limited window of opportunity to face Jones and Miocic. With years ahead in his career, Aspinall wants to add the names of these legendary fighters to his resume.
"We are talking about Jon Jones, who people say is the greatest fighter of all time. We got Stipe, who people say is the best heavyweight of all time – I want their names on my resume and I want to be in the win column," Aspinall explained.
While UFC president Dana White’s priority is to schedule a fight between Miocic and Jones, Aspinall hopes his recent knockout victory can sway the decision in his favor.
"I just knocked out the scariest guy in the heavyweight division in a minute without a training camp. I got a whole country behind me. I’ve got a belt now for myself. Let’s do it. Why not?" Aspinall stated.
Aspinall envisions the potential fight taking place at UFC 300 or even in his hometown of Manchester, where there are talks of hosting a UFC event in June or July.
"I think UFC 300 works perfectly," Aspinall said. "Or I know there is talk about bringing the UFC to Manchester in June or July time. So, that works equally as well."
Aspinall’s determination to unify the heavyweight division and face the best in the sport is a testament to his ambition and drive. With his recent success, it’s only a matter of time before he gets his shot at the title.
