UFC Fight Night: Severino Disqualified for Biting Opponent

In a shocking turn of events at UFC Fight Night in Las Vegas, Brazilian fighter Igor Severino was disqualified after biting his opponent, Andre Lima, during their flyweight bout. The incident occurred in the second round when Severino bit Lima on his bicep while they were in a clinch against the cage. Referee Chris Tognoni immediately stopped the fight and the incident was reviewed before awarding the win to Lima.

This bizarre act of aggression has led to severe consequences for Severino. UFC president Dana White announced that Severino has been released from the UFC. White expressed his disappointment, stating, ‘Those were two up-and-coming undefeated fighters. If you get frustrated and want out of the fight, there are plenty of ways to do it, but the worst thing you can do is bite your opponent. Now you get cut and lose the biggest opportunity of your life. Not to mention, he’s going to have real problems with the NSAC (Nevada State Athletic Commission).’

Lima, on the other hand, took a unique approach to commemorate the incident. He posted pictures of himself getting the bite mark tattooed. In response, White decided to double Lima’s fight bonus, awarding him $50,000 (£40,000).

In the main event of the night, former strawweight champion Rose Namajunas faced off against Brazilian Amanda Ribas in a flyweight encounter. Namajunas emerged victorious, securing a unanimous decision victory.

Other notable fights on the card included British heavyweight Mick Parkin’s win over Nigeria’s Mohammed Usman, the brother of former welterweight champion Kamaru Usman. Parkin claimed the victory by unanimous decision.
