UFC Returns to Abu Dhabi
UFC, the world’s premier mixed martial arts organisation, and the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi), have announced the highly anticipated return of UFC to Abu Dhabi. The event is set to take place on Saturday, August 3 at the Etihad Arena. This marks the second UFC event in the UAE capital in less than a year.
The upcoming fight night will feature a star-studded card, showcasing both international and local talent. Fans can expect to witness some of the sport’s most skilled athletes in action. This event will be the 18th UFC event held in Abu Dhabi, dating back to UFC 112: INVINCIBLE in April 2010.
Last year, UFC and DCT Abu Dhabi collaborated to host UFC 294: MAKHACHEV vs VOLKANOVSKI 2. The event took place at a sold-out Etihad Arena, where Islam Makhachev successfully defended his lightweight title against Alexander Volkanovski, the UFC featherweight champion. The fight was a thrilling display of skill and determination, as Volkanovski stepped up to the challenge on short notice. The event also marked the debut of Emirati athlete Mohammad Yahya, who competed in front of his home crowd.
UFC CEO Dana White expressed his excitement about returning to Abu Dhabi, stating, “Abu Dhabi is one of the most incredible cities in the world. I love everything about Abu Dhabi, and I’m excited to bring another kick-ass event there. Abu Dhabi is an amazing destination, especially if you are a fight fan. I tell everyone to fly in early, check out the amazing food and experiences Abu Dhabi has to offer, and then end the trip with incredible fights.”
H.E. Saleh Al Geziry, Director General for Tourism at DCT Abu Dhabi, also shared his enthusiasm, saying, “We’re excited to bring UFC Fight Night to Abu Dhabi, showcasing the world’s best fighters to fans across the Middle East. Hosting yet another UFC event in less than a year adds to Abu Dhabi’s position as a global hub for sporting events and attracts MMA fans from around the world to the emirate.
