Savannah Marshall, the reigning women’s super middleweight boxing champion, is set to make her MMA debut on June 8 at PFL Europe Newcastle in England. The announcement was made by the promotion on Tuesday.

Marshall, a 32-year-old fighter from England, made history by winning all four belts at 168 pounds in July. Her victory over Franchon Crews Dezurn by majority decision marked her comeback after her only career defeat, a loss to Claressa Shields in October 2022.

ESPN ranks Marshall as the No. 7 pound-for-pound women’s boxer.

PFL CEO Peter Murray expressed excitement about Marshall’s MMA debut and the potential for a rematch between Marshall and Shields. He highlighted their highly-watched first boxing matchup and teased a collision course for a rematch in the PFL SmartCage, where they will settle the score wearing four-ounce gloves.

In the PFL, Marshall will compete at lightweight. Shields, who has a record of 2-1 with one finish in MMA, made her PFL debut in June 2021 and secured a victory before suffering a decision setback in October of the same year.

Shields recently returned to MMA with a win over Kelsey DeSantis at PFL Champions vs. Bellator Champions in February, which took place in Saudi Arabia. |
