Former MMA fighter turned professional wrestler Matt Riddle recently opened up about his departure from the WWE and the shocking revelations of failing multiple drug tests. In an interview with Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour, Riddle admitted to failing three drug tests for cocaine, which ultimately led to his release. However, he believes that his departure was also influenced by a significant pay increase in his contract and his frequent appearances in tabloids. Riddle shared that he had a guaranteed million-dollar contract for the upcoming year, a substantial raise from his previous earnings. Despite the failed drug tests, he acknowledged that the writing was on the wall regarding his departure. Riddle confessed to using cocaine on a few occasions, leading to the positive drug tests. He mentioned that WWE conducts random tests, sometimes at the end of one month and the beginning of another. Even when he believed he was in the clear, he failed a test conducted at his home, which resulted in his admission to rehab. Although Riddle completed a 30-day rehab program, he declined another 30-day extension. The final straw came when he had an incident at JFK airport, where he drunkenly accused a border agent of molesting him. As a result, he was released from the WWE. Currently, Riddle is back on the independent circuit, prioritizing his mental and physical health. He plans to return to the MMA cage for another fight in 2024, exploring options outside of the UFC. Riddle expressed interest in the Gamebred Bareknuckle MMA promotion and hopes to face an opponent who won’t overpower him. Weighing in at 211 pounds, he anticipates dropping down to middleweight depending on the matchup.
