New footage has emerged showcasing UFC champion Leon Edwards demonstrating and instructing former footballer Rio Ferdinand on how to perform a rear naked choke. Ferdinand, who had a successful career playing for Manchester United and the England national team, recently visited Edwards at his gym in Birmingham for an interview with TNT Sports.

During the interview, Edwards discussed his 2022 title win, which made him the second-ever British UFC champion. He also talked about his upcoming defense against Colby Covington at UFC 296 in Las Vegas on December 16. As part of the demonstration, Edwards showed Ferdinand how to properly execute a rear naked choke, a popular submission move in jiu-jitsu and mixed martial arts.

The two entered the ring at Edwards’s gym and sat on the canvas, with Ferdinand positioned behind the champion. Edwards provided step-by-step instructions, explaining the positioning of the arms and the technique involved. He then applied the choke on Ferdinand before allowing the former footballer to try it himself.

Edwards’s journey to the welterweight title was marked by a spectacular knockout victory over Kamaru Usman. In their August 2022 bout, Edwards landed a head kick in the final minute, securing the win. This victory was particularly significant as Edwards had previously lost to Usman in 2015. He went on to successfully defend his title against Usman in a trilogy fight at London’s O2 Arena in March.
