UAE National Team Coach Confident in Athletes for IMMAF Youth World Championships

Tolly Plested, the coach of the UAE national team, is optimistic about the team’s performance in the upcoming International Mixed Martial Art Federation (IMMAF) Youth World Championships. The four-day championship, which will take place at the Mubadala Arena at Zayed Sports City starting on August 2, has attracted over 600 participants from 46 countries.

Last year, the UAE won a gold, silver, and two bronzes in their debut at the event. With 40 entries this year, Plested is confident that more UAE athletes will secure a place on the podium. One of the athletes to watch out for is Jesem Al Hosani, who will be defending his 77-kilogramme title.

Plested, who has been with the federation for just over two months, expressed his satisfaction with the preparations for the championships. He mentioned that athletes from different parts of the country have come together for a training camp, creating a positive environment for them to train together.

According to Plested, the team members have been training individually under their coaches in their respective clubs, and now they are completing their preparations with him. The number of athletes representing the UAE has increased from 28 in their debut last year to 40 this year, which Plested believes demonstrates the growth and popularity of MMA in the UAE.

Plested, a former MMA professional fighter, has a wealth of experience in coaching and has worked with various promotions around the world for over 18 years. He expressed his enjoyment at seeing the growth of MMA in the UAE.

The IMMAF president, Kerrith Brown, expressed his excitement about the record number of entries for this year’s championship. He highlighted the growth among the youth globally and the development of the next generation of athletes who are now directly entering MMA without prior experience in other martial arts.

Brigadier General Mohammed bin Dalmouj Al Dhaheri, chairman of the UAEMMA Federation, described the Youth World Championships as a platform for the world’s elite young MMA athletes to showcase their skills to a global audience.
