Kade Ruotolo’s Journey to ONE Championship

Kade Ruotolo, the lightweight submission grappling champion, is set to make his mixed martial arts debut in ONE Championship. This weekend, at ONE Fight Night 21 in Bangkok, he will compete in a 180-pound catchweight grappling bout against Francisco Lo. However, this is just the beginning for the 21-year-old American, as he has already signed up for an MMA bout later this summer.

Ruotolo expressed his excitement for the upcoming fights, stating, ‘I’m beyond eager, I’m beyond excited. I’m shadowboxing in the corner every day, I’m fired up.’ He will be sharing the ONE Fight Night card with his twin brother, Tye Ruotolo, who is the welterweight submission grappling champion in ONE Championship.

Tye Ruotolo also expects a tough match this weekend as he faces Australia’s Izaak Michell. He described Michell as aggressive, decorated, and accomplished, making it a challenging bout. Kade Ruotolo acknowledged the skill of his opponent, Francisco Lo, stating, ‘He’s a big name in the jiu-jitsu community, everyone knows he’s a sniper with the subs.’ He further added, ‘I believe like Tye said, it’s probably my toughest matchup I’ve had in ONE too.’

Both Kade and Tye Ruotolo have achieved great success in ONE Championship, and they have their eyes set on future challenges. Tye hopes to entice Nicholas Meregali and the legendary Gordan Ryan to face him in ONE, while Kade is also anticipating a switch to MMA.

In terms of predictions for their fights this weekend, Tye Ruotolo is expecting a submission victory with a ‘d’arce’ move, while Kade Ruotolo is aiming for a ‘leg lock’ submission. If they succeed, they could earn another US$50,000 bonus each.
