Santa Cruz Makes History with First Professional MMA Event

Santa Cruz makes history with its first professional MMA event. Daniel Compton, a Santa Cruz native, will headline the event. Don’t miss this historic event!

For the first time ever, the city of Santa Cruz will host a professional Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) event. On August 18, the Legacy Fighting Alliance (LFA) will bring their exciting fights to the home of the Santa Cruz Warriors. The promotion had no trouble finding a hometown fighter to headline the historic event. Standing at an impressive 6 feet 3 inches and weighing 185 pounds, Daniel Compton, a Santa Cruz native, was the perfect choice.

Compton, who has a record of 8-2 and is currently on a five-fight win streak, is a true representation of Santa Cruz. He attended Santa Cruz Garden Elementary, New Brighton Middle School, Soquel High, and Cabrillo College. Throughout his education, Compton was involved in sports and eventually earned a kinesiology degree from Cal-State Monterey Bay.

To prepare for his upcoming fight, Compton trains at the renowned American Kickboxing Academy in San Jose and also spends time at Smash Gym in Milpitas. He credits another Santa Cruz native and MMA legend, Luke Rockhold, for inspiring him to pursue his dreams. Rockhold, who was the captain of their high school wrestling team at Soquel High, showed Compton what it takes to reach the highest level of competition.

Compton’s head coach and owner of Smash Gym Milpitas, Rudi Ott, praises his fighter’s dedication and hunger for victory. Ott believes that Compton possesses a natural fighting spirit that cannot be taught. With the clock ticking on his career, Compton understands the importance of performing well, especially in front of his hometown crowd.

"The time is now," Compton declares with intensity. "I just love representing Santa Cruz, and I think they made the right choice by selecting me for this event. I’m going to go in there and get the job done. I’m so grateful for the support of Santa Cruz, my friends, and my family. I can’t wait for August 18."
