After a long hiatus, Brandon Bettencourt, a professional mixed martial artist from Turlock, California, returned to the cage on October 7th. The highly anticipated fight took place at the Gold Country Casino and Resort in Oroville. Bettencourt, who has faced numerous setbacks in the past, including injuries sustained in a car accident, was finally able to showcase his skills once again.

In his bantamweight bout against Raymond Smith, Bettencourt dominated from the start. Despite feeling some nerves during warm-up and his walkout, once the cage was locked, it was business as usual for the Turlocker. He quickly submitted Smith with a rear-naked choke in the first round, maintaining his undefeated professional record.

Bettencourt, a former wrestler at Turlock High School, relied on his exceptional jiu-jitsu skills to overpower Smith, who was known for his brawling style. After landing a couple of kicks and punches, Bettencourt took Smith down and utilized his ground and pound technique to force the submission.

The victory marks Bettencourt’s third submission win out of his five professional fights. Although no future fights have been confirmed, he plans to return to the gym next week and hopes to compete again early next year. His goal is to establish consistency in the cage and attract the attention of larger promotions, such as Dana White’s Contender Series.

Making the walk and hearing his name called is an indescribable rush for Bettencourt. He is excited about what the future holds and is determined to make the most of this victory.
