UFC Legend Demetrious Johnson Takes on a New Challenge

UFC legend and current ONE flyweight MMA champion, Demetrious Johnson, is set to showcase his skills in a different arena. Johnson will be competing in the IBJJF Masters World Championships , trading his gloves for the gi and testing his grappling abilities in the brown belt division.

The Masters Worlds is a prestigious event that brings together the best BJJ practitioners over the age of 30. Despite their age, these athletes possess elite talent and have achieved numerous accolades in the world of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

A Star-Studded Lineup

The Masters Worlds will feature a star-studded lineup of decorated BJJ world champions. Notable names include the Miyao brothers, João and Paulo, JT Torres, Jaime Canuto, and former Bellator champion Rafael Lovato Jr.

In addition to these seasoned veterans, Demetrious Johnson will be joining the featherweight division at brown belt. With 38 competitors in his division, Johnson will need to win six matches to secure the gold medal.

Legends and Pioneers

The Masters Worlds will also see the participation of other BJJ legends and pioneers. Mackenzie Dern’s father, ‘Megaton’ Dias, will be competing in the Masters 6 division, while Roberto Godoi and Bruno Bastos will showcase their skills in the Masters 4 and Masters 3 divisions, respectively.

Jiu-Jitsu Con International

Alongside the Masters Worlds, the Jiu-Jitsu Con International will also take place. This event will feature elite BJJ talent, including world champions Mayssa Bastos and Gabrieli Pessanha. Dieto ‘Pato’ Oliveira and Lucas Barbosa will also be competing in both gi and no-gi divisions.

Both the Masters Worlds and Jiu-Jitsu Con International will be live-streamed on FloGrappling. The events will kick off on August 31st at 12:30 pm ET in Las Vegas, Nevada, and will continue until September 2nd.

Mighty Mouse’s Journey

For fans eager to see Demetrious Johnson in action, keep an eye out for his matches in the Masters 2 featherweight division at brown belt. Johnson’s first match is scheduled for Thursday at 1:40 pm ET on Mat 9. If he continues to win, he will have little time between each match.
