Brooks, a member of the renowned Mash Fight Team, has expressed confidence in his jiu-jitsu skills, particularly in ankle locks. Although he hasn’t had many opportunities to showcase these skills in mixed martial arts, he is eager to demonstrate his prowess against Musumeci.
"I’m defensively sound in ankle locks, as far as jiu-jitsu goes. It’s just that I haven’t really been put in those positions in mixed martial arts. So [I’m interested in seeing] what Mikey can do against somebody of my prowess," Brooks shared in an interview with ONE Championship.
For this fight, Brooks is moving up in weight class, aiming to become a two-sport ONE world champion. His last victory came in December when he defeated Joshua Pacio to claim the ONE strawweight MMA world championship title in Manila.
On the other hand, Musumeci will be defending his world title for the third time. Having won the title in September, he successfully defended it in May against Osamah Almarwai. Musumeci’s impressive grappling skills make him a formidable opponent for Brooks.
