Olympic gold medalist Judoka and veteran MMA fighter Satoshi Ishii faced off against Danilo Marques at PFL 8 on August 18th, 2023. Despite his impressive background in Judo and success in MMA, Ishii was unable to secure a victory in this closely contested bout.
Ishii, who reached the highest level in Judo back in 2008, made a seamless transition to MMA and competed for top promotions such as Bellator and RIZIN FF. Although he had a mixed record in the 2019 PFL season, Ishii signed a contract with the organization earlier this year, marking his return after a four-year absence.
The fight against Marques proved to be a tough challenge for Ishii. Marques came out strong from the beginning, dropping Ishii in the first round and dominating the striking exchanges. Despite Ishii’s valiant efforts in the third round, Marques maintained his distance and secured a unanimous decision victory. All three judges scored the fight 29-28 in Marques’ favor.
