City Kickboxing’s Night of Success
UFC 293 is set to take place tonight in Sydney, Australia, and it could be a historic night for City Kickboxing. The New Zealand-based gym has several fighters competing in the event, including Mike ‘Blood Diamond’ Mathetha, a rising star in the world of mixed martial arts.
Mathetha, a two-time winner of the King in the Ring kickboxing tournament, made his debut in the Octagon last year. However, he faced setbacks with consecutive losses to Jeremiah Wells and Orion Cosce. Recognizing the need to improve his ground game, Mathetha has been working hard in the gym to fill that gap.
During the UFC 293 media day, Mathetha reflected on his early struggles in the MMA world. He has since trained with teammate and UFC Featherweight Champion Alexander Volkanovski, which has helped him gain confidence in his grappling abilities.
Tonight, Mathetha will join his City Kickboxing teammates, Kevin Jousset and Shane Young, as they represent the gym in Sydney. The event will also feature other notable fighters from the gym, including Carlos Ulberg, Tyson Pedro, and UFC Middleweight Champion Israel Adesanya.

Mathetha stated, ‘This camp, I’ve been feeling very confident. I think one of the times I tested it out was when I was training with Volk. At the beginning of camp, all he had to do was take me down and then I’m like, ‘Crap, I’m in trouble.’ But at the end, I could grapple with him and it gave me more confidence. Getting back home, testing it out on my teammates, you can see the evolution. It gives me more confidence.’

Stay tuned for the action-packed UFC 293 event and witness the potential success of City Kickboxing’s fighters.
