Conor McGregor’s Highly Anticipated UFC Comeback

Conor McGregor, the renowned UFC fighter, has announced his intention to make a comeback against Michael Chandler on June 29 in Las Vegas. This exciting news has sent shockwaves through the MMA community, but the question remains: will this fight actually happen?

McGregor, at the age of 35, took to social media to reveal his plans for what he calls the ‘greatest comeback of all time.’ However, the UFC has yet to confirm or comment on this proposal.

In a video posted on X, McGregor confidently stated, ‘I’d like to announce the return date for myself, ‘Notorious’ Conor McGregor. The greatest comeback of all time will take place in Las Vegas, International Fight Week of June 29. The opponent, Michael Chandler — and the weight, Mr. Chandler, 185 pounds.’

Chandler, 37, expressed his excitement for the potential bout but admitted that he was unaware of any official date. He said, ‘Here we go, this is the fight I’ve been training for. Any weight — 155, 170, 185 pounds — is good with me.’

The choice of 185 pounds by McGregor is intriguing, considering that both fighters’ ‘natural’ weight class is 155 pounds. McGregor has previously won titles at 145 and 155 pounds, and he has even competed at 170 pounds. Chandler, too, has held a title at 155 pounds in another promotion, and all of his UFC appearances have been at that weight.

It’s worth noting that McGregor and Chandler coached against each other on ‘The Ultimate Fighter’ reality series last year, but no official fight date was ever set. In the meantime, McGregor has expressed interest in various other fights, including a bare-knuckle boxing match and a professional bout against retired fighter Manny Pacquiao.

However, McGregor has faced other challenges in recent times. He was involved in a public dispute with the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA), which served as UFC’s anti-doping partner until the end of last year. USADA claimed that the partnership deteriorated because UFC wanted to exempt McGregor from the mandatory six-month testing window after leaving its testing pool. UFC’s chief business officer, Hunter Campbell, vehemently denied these allegations and demanded a public apology.

Following the fallout with USADA, UFC has now announced a new partnership with collection agency Drug Free Sport International.

It’s been almost a year since McGregor’s last fight, where he suffered a devastating broken leg during a loss to Dustin Poirier in July 2021. Fans are eagerly awaiting his return to the octagon, but whether the highly anticipated fight with Chandler will come to fruition is still uncertain.
