The highly anticipated fight took place in October 2018 and remains the highest-grossing pay-per-view in mixed martial arts history. Nurmagomedov, who retained the lightweight title, met with Putin after the fight and was rewarded with the substantial gift.
White shared this information during an interview on the Games With Names podcast. He explained that Nurmagomedov didn’t even have a chance to return to his dressing room before receiving a phone call from Putin. The Russian president gifted both Nurmagomedov and his father with the valuable properties in Russia. Additionally, Nurmagomedov was given the freedom to explore the Muslim territories, where he could indulge in his interests such as cars, money, and gyms.
After defeating McGregor, Nurmagomedov went on to have two more successful fights. He defended his lightweight title against Dustin Poirier in 2019 and Justin Gaethje in 2020.
