Competing in the bantamweight division at UFC on ESPN 52 prelims in Austin, Texas, Tate showcased her dominance by defeating Julia Avila via submission in the third round. Throughout the fight, Tate displayed her superior grappling skills and relentless submission attempts, eventually securing a rear-naked choke that forced Avila to tap. Despite her victory, Tate appeared to have suffered a leg injury and was carried out of the cage by her fiancé Johnny Nunez.
This win marks Tate’s second victory since coming out of retirement in 2021, following a previous unsuccessful attempt at flyweight. The 37-year-old fighter plans to continue competing in the bantamweight division. On the other hand, Avila, who was returning from a pregnancy break, falls to a 1-2 record in her last three bouts.
