Taylor Lapilus, the 31-year-old Frenchman, is making his long-awaited return to the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) after nearly seven years. He will face off against the undefeated Caolan Loughran in the UFC Fight Night 226 undercard on Saturday at Accor Arena in Paris. Lapilus enters the Octagon on a five-fight winning streak, with a 3-1 record during his first UFC run. Here are five things you might not know about him:
- Rising from the Suburbs
Lapilus was born in Villepinte, France—a city located 18 miles northeast of Paris. He shares his hometown with actor Said Taghmaoui, known for his roles in movies like “Three Kings” and “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra.”
- Early Start, Early Success
Lapilus made his professional mixed martial arts debut just eight days before his 20th birthday. He submitted Isa Abiev with a first-round triangle choke, marking the first of his six career wins by submission.
- Training at the Best
Lapilus trains at the highly regarded MMA Factory camp in Paris, founded by Lopez Owonyebe. The gym has produced top fighters like former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou and former Bellator MMA light heavyweight titleholder Christian M’Pumbu. Lapilus has also trained at SBG Ireland in Dublin.
- A Champion in Multiple Organizations
Lapilus has achieved success in three different organizations. He won the German MMA Championship bantamweight title, the TKO Major League MMA bantamweight championship, and the Ares Fighting Championship bantamweight crown.
- Venturing into Pro Boxing
In May 2017, Lapilus tried his hand at professional boxing and emerged victorious with a unanimous decision win. However, he returned to MMA seven months later and has since compiled an impressive 8-1 record across nine appearances.
Stay tuned for Lapilus’ highly anticipated return to the UFC, where he aims to continue his winning streak and make a statement in the welterweight division.
