UFC 293 Main Event Update: Sean Strickland’s Fight in Sydney Looking Positive

Get the latest update on the potential main event for UFC 293 in Sydney featuring Israel Adesanya. Find out why Sean Strickland’s fight is looking positive for the card in Sydney.

The potential main event for UFC 293 in Sydney featuring Israel Adesanya has faced complications in recent weeks. However, it seems that Sean Strickland’s fight is now looking positive for the card in Sydney.

According to an interview with Submission Radio, Strickland’s coach Eric Nicksick provided an update on the situation. Nicksick stated that all signs are pointing in a good direction and that Strickland is focused on getting his visa in order. Although the UFC initially hesitated to make the bout official, it seems that the fight is now likely to happen.

The UFC’s return to Salt Lake City in Utah for UFC 291 raised questions about how the high altitude would affect the fighters. In the past, altitude has played a significant role in fights, and it particularly impacted the main event clash between Kamaru Usman and Leon Edwards at UFC 278. However, this time around, the fighters were prepared for the altitude, and it only seemed to affect one fighter’s performance.

Jan Błachowicz, who had a dominant round using his grappling, appeared tired for the remainder of his contest with Alex Pereira. Pereira ultimately won the fight via split decision. Daniel Cormier, on the latest episode of DC & RC, highlighted the impact of altitude on Błachowicz’s performance, stating that he was the only fighter affected by it. Cormier noted that although Błachowicz managed to secure a takedown in the third round, it wasn’t enough to secure a victory.

In an interview with Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour, Helwani reassured Dustin Poirier that his loss to Justin Gaethje at UFC 291 did not impact his legacy. Poirier expressed disappointment at not winning the vacant BMF title and believed that the belt and win would have put him in the Hall of Fame conversation. Helwani disagreed, stating that Poirier’s career already warranted consideration for the Hall of Fame, regardless of the outcome of his recent fight.

Conor McGregor, however, took to Twitter to dispute Helwani’s statement. McGregor listed Poirier’s accomplishments, or lack thereof, in a series of posts, suggesting that Poirier is at best a lightweight division Hall of Famer. McGregor criticized Poirier’s performance in other weight classes and questioned his status as a UFC legend.
