UFC Nashville: Rob Font Steps in to Face Cory Sandhagen in Main Event

Rob Font steps in to replace Umar Nurmagomedov in the main event of UFC Nashville. Font will face Cory Sandhagen in a highly-anticipated bantamweight clash at a catchweight of 140 pounds.

UFC bantamweight contender Rob Font has been announced as the replacement for the injured Umar Nurmagomedov in the main event of UFC Nashville . Font will now face Cory Sandhagen in a highly anticipated bout on August 5th.

The fight, originally scheduled at the bantamweight division-limit of 135 pounds, will now take place at a catchweight of 140 pounds, according to sources. Despite the change, the fight will remain a five-round contest.

ESPN currently ranks Sandhagen at No. 5 in the world at bantamweight, while Font holds the No. 9 spot. This clash of top-ranked fighters is expected to be a thrilling showdown.

Font was initially set to fight Song Yadong at UFC 292 in Boston on August 19th. However, Yadong withdrew from the bout due to undisclosed reasons, paving the way for Font’s opportunity to face Sandhagen.

Nurmagomedov, on the other hand, had to withdraw from the fight due to a shoulder injury that will require surgery. His manager, Ali Abdelaziz of Dominance MMA, confirmed the news earlier this week.

Sandhagen, with a record of 16-4, is riding a two-fight winning streak. His most recent victory came in a split decision win over Marlon "Chito" Vera in March. The 31-year-old fighter has only suffered defeats at the hands of former or current champions in the UFC, including a loss to Petr Yan in an interim bantamweight title fight at UFC 267.

Font, with a record of 20-6, is coming off a first-round TKO over Adrian Yanez at UFC 287 in April. The 36-year-old Massachusetts native ended a two-fight losing streak with that impressive victory and has emerged victorious in five of his last seven fights overall.

This highly-anticipated matchup between Font and Sandhagen promises to deliver fireworks inside the Octagon. Fans can expect an intense battle between two top-ranked bantamweight fighters.
