Underdog Julija Stoliarenko Shocks Crowd with First-Round Submission Victory
In a stunning upset, Julija Stoliarenko proved herself as the ultimate underdog at UFC Fight Night 224 in London. Stoliarenko faced off against fan-favorite Molly McCann in the co-main event, and despite being the clear underdog, she silenced the crowd by securing a first-round submission victory.
From the opening bell, Stoliarenko set a fast pace, but McCann was hesitant to engage in a brawl. However, when McCann did throw punches, she found success. Unfortunately for her, it wouldn’t last long.
Stoliarenko quickly took the fight to the ground and swiftly took McCann’s back. Although McCann managed to escape briefly, Stoliarenko locked in a deep armbar and forced McCann to tap.
This win marks Stoliarenko’s second victory in the UFC, both coming by way of submission. In her previous fight, she submitted Jessica-Rose Clark in the first round at UFC 276.
On the other hand, McCann’s homecoming in England didn’t go as planned. This loss marks her second consecutive first-round defeat. Prior to this skid, she had three consecutive wins against Ji Yeon Kim, Luana Carolina, and Hannah Goldy.
