Chris Wade, the undefeated fighter from Islip, has secured his fifth consecutive semifinal appearance in the Professional Fighters League (PFL) playoffs. Due to an injury suffered by Movlid Khaybulaev, the reigning featherweight champion, Wade will now face Gabriel Braga on August 4th in San Antonio, Texas. The winner of this matchup will earn a spot in the PFL Championship later this year, with the chance to claim the grand prize of $1 million.

In a recent video posted on his Instagram account, Wade expressed his excitement, stating, “We are back. Back for a fifth consecutive semifinal in the PFL $1 million tournament. I’m so amped, you have no idea.” With an impressive track record, Wade has reached the semifinals in each of the past four seasons, even making it to the final in 2021, where he fell short against Khaybulaev.

This season, Wade (23-9) finished in fifth place with six points, narrowly missing out on a tiebreaker with Jesus Pinedo for the fourth and final spot in the 145-pound playoffs. In his first match, Wade suffered a unanimous decision loss to Bubba Jenkins. However, he bounced back in his second bout, securing a first-round submission victory over Ryoji Kudo.

Bubba Jenkins, the top seed in the featherweight division, will face off against the fourth-seeded Jesus Pinedo in another semifinal matchup. Braga (11-0), on the other hand, earned his spot in the semifinals by winning a split decision against Pinedo and then delivering a first-round knockout against Marlon Moraes, earning him nine points and a second-place finish behind Jenkins.

Wade is determined to make the most of this opportunity, stating on Instagram, “Destiny is a powerful thing, as is faith!! It’s time to seize the moment and to finish writing a storybook ending to this season by becoming a world champion and millionaire.”
