Jorge Masvidal’s Rivalry with Kamaru Usman

Retired UFC welterweight, Jorge Masvidal, recently shared his thoughts on his intense rivalry with Kamaru Usman. Masvidal, also known as ‘Gamebred,’ challenged Usman for the welterweight title twice during his impressive MMA career. Unfortunately, he fell short on both occasions, losing a unanimous decision in their first fight and suffering a devastating second-round knockout in their rematch.

Masvidal believes that if circumstances were different, he may have had a different outcome against Usman. He recalled a chance encounter with Usman just before the latter’s fight against Khamzat Chimaev. Masvidal bumped into Usman at an establishment in the early hours of the morning, and they had a brief exchange. This encounter left Masvidal convinced that with proper preparation, Usman would have defeated Chimaev.

Despite his losses, Masvidal is no stranger to short-notice fights and has even stepped in to save the UFC 251 headliner when Gilbert Burns was pulled from the event. However, his prediction for the Usman vs. Chimaev fight did not come true. The fight, which took place at middleweight, ended in a majority decision win for Chimaev.

Although Usman didn’t win, he performed well and is considering another shot at the middleweight division. However, with Chimaev’s rise in the rankings, it is uncertain when we will see Usman back in the Octagon.
