UFC Flyweight Champion Brandon Moreno Announces Break

Brandon Moreno, a two-time former UFC flyweight champion, has recently announced that he will be taking a break from mixed martial arts. Although he clarified that this break is not a permanent retirement, Moreno expressed the need for some time away from the sport following his recent results.

In a heartfelt message shared on his Instagram account, the Tijuana native opened up about his decision. He mentioned feeling mentally and physically exhausted after his split decision loss to Brandon Royval at UFC Mexico in February and his championship loss to Alexandre Pantoja in July 2023 at UFC 290.

Moreno emphasized that his decision is not a farewell but rather a chance to recharge and reconnect with his family. He expressed his desire to take a break from the constant pressure, media scrutiny, and the weight he has carried on his shoulders for the past few years.

While acknowledging his frustration with his recent performance, Moreno remains optimistic about his future in the sport. He believes that this break will allow him to regroup, recover, and come back stronger, just as he did when he became the world champion in the past.

Throughout his career, Moreno has shown his resilience and determination. He has had an impressive run, with six championship fights between December 2020 and his loss to Pantoja. Notably, he made history as the first Mexican-born UFC champion when he submitted Deiveson Figueiredo in June 2021 at UFC 263.

Despite the challenges he currently faces, Moreno firmly believes in his abilities and remains committed to reclaiming the championship title. He sees this break as an opportunity to refocus, work on his skills, and ultimately return to the octagon as a champion once again.
